Artist's Comments

I've been doing a self portrait drawn from the same mirror in my bedroom about once every other year or so, this is now my 5th portrait of this style.

I realize the photos in the mirror at the bottom are very simple and cartoonish. I didn't feel that they needed to be very realistic and have details, I just wanted it obvious that the people are graduating and smiling. I thought it was a great contrast with my stoic face above.

I just graduated about 2 months ago and I know that most of my classmates, while smiling on the outside, were feeling the way I look in that portrait. Nobody knows what the future holds and that can be worrisome.

Depends on you and me
What we do today
Will Shape our destiny"

that's a pretty powerful piece. I think that contrasting the faces is a cool idea and had a good effect. Your face definitely captured the emotion that a lot of... or all of us feel now

I like it, though you may want to add a bit more into the background so it is bit more balanced. It makes me think of my graduation this June, Friday the 13th. Excited, but worried myself. I agree with you that the pictures in the bottom just really do not need to look any different from the way they are now, though I thought they were like "memories" of friends, if you know what I mean. At least when I first looked at it.

Let's see...would you like to enter a Sme's mind. Because it sure is rather....odd. lol.

Not seeing the stoic look, more perhaps a wry coming to terms with the here and now, balancing with having moved beyond one of life's milestones and accomplishments.
